Jeremija

Slobodan Jeremić Jeremija was born in Šabac where he spent his childhood and went to school.

After several years spent in Belgrade, in early 1970s, he decided to leave the city and move to the village of Pećinci.

Jeremija is a painter by profession since 1968, he had 160 independent and around 250 group exhibitions in former Yugoslavia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, USA.

He was given 30 awards, some of them being the following:

• In 1983, he was awarded White Angel plaquette by the Mileševa artist colony, Prijepolje.
• In 1996, „Golden Badge“ awarded by Cultural & Educational Society of Serbia for altruistic, arduous and long-standing work and creative contribution to cultural advancement, Belgrade.
• In 1999, Diploma with the cup of the 36th International Fair for Preservation of National Cultural Heritage held in Novi Sad.
• In 2001, Life Achievement Award by Yugoslavian Association for Rural Sociology and Agriculture and Institute for Rural Development Sociology.

Several documentaries, films, TV and radio shows have been filmed about Jeremija.
His works is present in several monographs.

In 1988, monograph named „Jeremija between Bread and Heaven“ was published.

In 1989, collection of poems „Salt and Bread of Jeremija“ was published. It includes poems of distinguished Serbian poets.

In 1995, Serbian Museum of Bread – Jeremija was founded.

Jeremija’s paintings are present in private and museum collections all around the world.
Jeremija lives in Pećinci, but creates all around Serbia.
